Lacquered finishes require no maintenance. If you have kids, a full household, or just need a durable, easy finish, opt for lacquered. Opting for an oiled finish means you need to maintain the finish by oiling your table every 3-6 months. The benefit of an oiled finish is that the wood grain looks more rich, and will be less affected over time by exposure to UV light. Oiled Surfaces: Oil treatment enhances the natural variations of each unique piece of wood, and just as different parts of an item will absorb the oil differently, others may also dry out in a different place. Always clean the surface before treating the wood with oil - preferably using a damp cloth, and allowing approximately two hours to fully dry.
