Whether youre looking for a living room table or a bedside table, this version of the classic design will serve and serve well. Whats to Like: The simple beauty of the table, to start with. Then add on a layer of legitimate classic design, with the cherry on top of Eero Saarinens personal involvement. This line of tables all qualify for museum induction, and many have already found homes there. Oh yeah, and they can really hold up a lamp and a stack of magazines! Whats Not to Like: As with all the tables in this series, their design is very specific, and therefore self selecting. They arent going to fit in great with just any design scheme. But when they do fit in, they really make a statement. Bottom Line: This is a gorgeous addition to many living rooms, as long as theyre ready for it. Its a legitimate all time classic, and a thrill to own. The Eero Saarinen Side Tables are first and foremost pure tables. They are the work of an essentialist, boiling concepts and functions down to their invaluable attributes. The Saarinen Side Tables are effective and beautiful structures, but never showy or unnecessary ones. From Saarinen himself: The underside of typical chairs and tables makes a confusing, unrestful world. I wanted to clear up the slum of legs. To accomplish this, the Saarinen Side Tables are on a pedestal, unencumbered by the slum of legs, and easy to use for the whole family. The tables are available with veneer, laminate, or marble tops with a base in black, white or the new platinum 50th Anniversary finish.Materials: The Saarinen Side Table has a marble, laminate, or wood top along with a cast aluminum or platinum base. Black and white bases are coated in a tough Rilsan finish. Dimensions: 20 h x 16.25 wCoated vs. Natural Marble: Coated Marble: has a transparent polyester coating that creates a non-porous surface to prevent use-associated stains. This polyester coating may yellow over time but will make the marble most durable over its lifetime. Natural Marble: has a penetrating sealer to protect the stone from aging and staining. This sealer must be renewed periodically. The natural marble requires maintenance but will not yellow over time.
