In times past, no well-appointed fireplace was ever considered complete without a cast iron fireback. And although todays fireplaces have seen great improvements in construction materials, a fireback is still the best way to protect a hearths back wall from damage. In addition to being a beautiful centerpiece of the fireplace, it is also highly functional in reflecting light and heat from the fire out into the room. Firebacks are shipped with a water base black paint to prevent rust build up during transit. To give a brighter finish to the fireback and to protect the casting from rust after use with a fire, an application of water base graphite stove polish is recommended. Applied with a toothbrush or rag, this paste, when dry, can be polished with a wire brush or rag giving the fireback an attractive silverfish sheen.The Pennsylvania Firebacks We The People Cast Iron Fireback celebrates one of Americas crowning achievements- the signing of the Constitution of the United States in 1787.
