Through its long and storied history, Pine Grove Iron Works saw rise and fall of the industrial age along with the the boom and demise of the iron trade. The iron furnace, located along Mountain Creek in Pennsylvania, manufactured iron for ten-plate stoves, firebacks, iron kettles, and even munitions during the American Revolution. Its 131-year-long run saw owners come and go. It saw massive expansion during its boom time, but ultimately was put out of business for good with the development of new technologies. Firebacks are shipped with a water base black paint to prevent rust build up during transit. To give a brighter finish to the fireback and to protect the casting from rust after use with a fire, an application of water base graphite stove polish is recommended. Applied with a toothbrush or rag, this paste, when dry, can be polished with a wire brush or rag giving the fireback an attractive silverfish sheen. To commemorate such a colorful history, the Pennsylvania Firebacks Pine Grove Furnace Cast Iron Fireback was created as a historical reproduction. And although the the classical urn and flower motif was one of the most popular ornamentations for firebacks in the late eighteenth century, the presence of the bird in the foliage was less common. Denoted with a banner across the bottom that reads, Pine Grove Furnace, this fireback maintains all the original textures and sculptural elements from the original firebacks created in this foundry.|Cast Iron Construction |21 inch W x 25.75 inch H |Handmade in the USA
