An artful piece with practical functionality. The Fan Clock by Vitra is a beautiful addition to earthy, contemporary homes and commercial spaces. Shaped in a fan-like silhouette, this dimensional design is decorated with contrasting beads that form the hour markers. The lacquered hour and minute markers alongside a thin second marker ensure precise timekeeping through accurate Quartz movement. The designer, George Nelson, worked as a design director at Hermon Miller in 1945 and later established his own design firm, George Nelson Associates. He was the one to conceive the idea of converting numbers into hour markers after analyzing that the usage of wall clocks has lost its functional purpose since most people wore more wristwatches at that time. That led him to create 14 timepieces that included novel wall clocks and a compact table clock.
