The usability of the Navy® Chair, made of recycled aluminum, welded and tempered for strength for use on submarines proved the material could be used in a variety of furnishings. After the creation of the original side chair in 1944, the US Government requested a high quality library chair. The request led to the design of the Navy® Chair, Wood Seat a recycled aluminum side chair complemented by a finished wood seat.
